"Son of a..." Kat mumbled to herself, fidgeting with a kerosene lighter. Some of her girlfriends had wanted to go camping for the weekend, and Kat had somehow been put in charge of finding a lantern at the small convenience store over by the campsite. Naturally, no one had wanted to go with her to get it, so Kat was trying to figure out the differences between the boxes and whether it was all really worth it in the age of flashlights, anyway.
She sat down on the ground and opened the box, pulling out a metal contraption that was supposed to be a lantern (she wasn't sure it just wasn't a fancy jar,) and started playing with the on/off switch, trying to test it out. Nothing happened, and with a roll of her eyes she shoved it back in the box and picked up the next model. Surely at least one of these damn things had to work... right?

"Uh... Need some help?" Embry, who had gone to the convience store to get some type of little treat, had almost walked into a girl on the ground trying to use some type of lantern. He tilted his head, watching her. What the hell was she trying to do. Well, at least she was cute. That makes up for lack of knowledge when it comes to camping.

Kat looked up when she was addressed by a tall boy about her own age, and she could feel the blood rising to her cheeks as she blushed. "Um, yes, that would actually be really nice." She flicked her bangs out of her face, then slowly straightened. Even standing, she was shorter than him by a few inches.
"I just need something that's actually going to work. As you can see, this is obviously not my area of expertise." Despite her mortification, she managed to hold his gaze, her own eyes very blue. He was attractive, but there was no point in saying anything- he probably already thought she was one of those extremely dumb pretty girls that didn't have a single brain cell. That thought made her blush even more, because it couldn't be farther from the truth.
